I got a new desktop puter coming next week, going for a complete new system and a proper tidy up.

Do you partition your drive?

I'm seeing conflicting ideas on the internet, a lot say the old days of it speeding things up is gone, fair enough. Some say it's pointless, others think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

I'm thinking of having 3 partitions, one for the OS, one for applications and then one for files. This way it makes backups easier, as only the files need to be backed up regularly and if my OS gets fooked up or gets a virus, it's easy to format the OS partition and do a reinstall. Or will this just overcomplicate things.
